Why Believe In A Final Judgment

Week 5 Small Groups

The final judgment that awaits every human being is a historically accepted belief in Christianity (as is also in most other religions). The inescapable fact of the final judgment is clearly taught by Jesus, often linked to the reality of heaven and hell. Unsurprisingly, this belief has proven unpopular in today’s western culture, much to our own detriment. The aim of this study is thus to remind us of this important belief and for it to generate worship in our hearts to the God who saves.

A note on using the study: Instead of being given a bible passage from which we draw a conclusion, we’ll be starting with a doctrine for which you will have to substantiate yourselves.

The final judgment of God is not just real, but necessary.

What are some Bible passages you could turn to?

What prior doctrines does it assume (eg. existence of God)?

Why is it important for us to get this right?

The final judgment of God will be not just fair, but good.

What is unique about the Bible’s teaching compared to most other religions?
